Rm, Reaper is a fantasy gaming, miniatures, and paint company located in the DFW, TX area. Go here for their site: http://www.reapermini.com/

Every April, they have a four-day convention featuring large and small table games, sculpting and painting classes, sculpting and painting tables for attendees, Reaper's stable of sculptors and painters to help out, and a painting comp using the open system. There are also vendors, but most of these cater to the gaming side of the hobby. The Con used to be at Reaper's large R&D and production facility north of Lewisville, but they outgrew it and moved it the Hilton Garden Inn in south Lewisville. It was hugely successful with over 400 pieces entered in the comp. Our DFW figure group - the North Texas Figure Club - had a display table and many of us entered the comp. Click on Reapercon in the above link and look for the 2014 competition results and you'll get an idea of what you'll find there.

Cheers,

Thanks for the info Mark. If the powers-that-be want go the commercial route, them I'll have them pick from a range of sites - Reiger included.

RM, I met Penny Meyer once at the Tulsa Show a number of years ago. She had a small posse around her. I wasn't dabbling in flats then so we didn't talk much. She probably doesn't remember me from Adam... I would like to take one of her classes, tho'. PM has a contemporary up that area of the country in Noel Meyer. Don't know is they're related, but Noel did classes at ReaperCon and may be teaching an advanced Flat painting class at RC next year. Since the RC dust has largely settled, I suppose I should check in with them for an update!

Cheers,

Glen

Rieger has a very basic but, efficient website and takes PayPal.  I have ordered from him here in Washington state in the US with very happy results.

Thanks RM/Brian. They do look better than most others I've seen. The Little Tin Soldier doesn't seem to carry Reiger. Does Reiger ship to the US?

Much of this is still up in the air. Still waiting on a go/no go decision for the class(es) and whether they want to use commercial pieces or design/sculpt in-house.

Thanks, again.

Yes, he's on the links page. I found the SW pieces, but again, drawings only; no metal. This is typical and generally acceptable, I suppose, but I'm not taking any chances. Has anyone seen them closely enough to offer comments? I'm also wondering if they're licensed. There's no indication on his site.

Not so much spoiled as careful. I've picked up a couple of pieces based on drawings and was disappointed in the actual engraving/casting - differences between the drawing and the metal, poor perspective, inconsistent, blobby, and/or ragged details, etc. As a result, I'm a lot more careful in what I buy. I'm looking for 30mm fantasy pieces with an eye on teaching an intermediate flat painting class. The class will consist of fantasy figure painters with some experience in painting 30mm gaming figures under their belt. It's going to be a tough room in terms of expectations...

Cheers,

Man you are really spoiled Glen.  Back in the olden days all we had to go one were catalogs with  line drawings of the figures. And, we survived  :)
Are we having fun yet?

Thanks everyone. I had looked at Uwe Peters stuff via the Links page, but everything was drawings and painted pieces. I couldn't tell what the metal was actually like. Well engraved and cast is what I'm looking for. He lists The Little Tin Soldier as his US distributor, so I'll check there.

No more figures today. British Car show this late AM and afternoon!

Thanks,

Glen

I find the 30mm's by Fredericus Rex to be very good for detail and good casting .Their heads are tad large so wargamers will feel at home (he said, sarcastically ,with a hint of malice ):-)

30mm Figure Recommendation?
Hi all,

I'm looking for a single 30mm foot figure of any genre - historical, fantasy, or sci-fi - that is well engraved and cast with sharp detail and a face that is more than a few bumps and hollows. Ideally, the figure should be of the medieval, wizards, warriors, and elves, or steampunk type. This is for a possible acrylic flat painting class for mostly gaming and mini painting enthusiasts. They are used to more-than-good detail, so a good first impression of a pre-cleaned-up and primed figure will be vital in maintaining interest. Since this is out of my league scale-wise, I totally unfamiliar with anything that's out there.[/size]..Any ideas?Cheers,
Glen
