The L shaped line is the way the line of the jaw has been engraved, the hat ribbon is black. In real life neither highlights look quite as stark as they do on the photo.

Well done! Great flesh tones on the face and the reds on the belts and sabertache are great.

Two questions: what is the l-shaped line on the jaw and is the hat bow (cockade?) supposed to be gray or black?

Hello John, thank you very much. Yes things have seemed to have improved since the switch to oils, I wish I had taken the plunge sooner instead of clinging to my "round" painting habits.
Those poor acrylics are being left to harden in the tubes.

Nicely painted figure you are certainly seeing the difference in your figures since you changed to oil paints. For such a big figure it looks super.

This came together quite nicely - I think this is the best of the large scale flats you have shown here.  I am suitably impressed.  (Great engraving too - he looks most suitably Prussian!)
