It was good to see those images of the Gottstein Dioramas that once resided at the Royal United Services Institute Museum in Whitehall, London. Six of the images show the Old Guard at Waterloo; another is the charge of the Light Brigade at Balaclava and one is of the Battle of Crecy showing the moment when the Genoese crossbowmen on the French side are retreating under the shower of arrows from the English & Welsh archers.
I have letter from the RUSI dated 26th January 1981 which shows that five of the fifteen of the dioramas
went to the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, Canada
after the RUSI closed in 1963:
- The Landing of the Romans under Julius Caesar on the English coast, 55BC
- The Battle of Crecy, 1346
- The Battle of Blenheim, 1704
- The Old Guard at Waterloo, 1815
- The Charge of the Light Brigade, Balaclava, 1854
Thank you Alexander for posting the images.
