Glen, he was the unit commander but the bugler being killed he took the bugle; the story does not say if there were false notes

X2. Was he the unit commander or the bugler? I would think that bugles being an essential part of battlefield command and control at the time, a commander's ability to use one would be a nice skill to have.

Bought at Lunéville from General Loustalot-Forest who issued a few nice figures; among them this one engraved by Daniel Lepeltier from an Edouard Detaille painting
It shows Commandant Berbegier, 70° line regiment, deadly wounded but still blowing the buggle to gather his troops
