Letting you have a look of how Dave's getting on  ;)

How I Paint Part 2:

Wild West Venture

Having undercoated in acrylics I now start on with the oils.  I use paints from tube onto absorbent card, any mixing is done from card to palette.  So I take base coat put on appropriate area then take off paint with clean brush.  Then from palette I add highlight and shadow, at this stage I am more concerned with coverage of larger colour areas, detail will come later.

Next step will be to paint the white horse at this stage it is only primed.

Brain. The Model is based on the painting by Charles M. Russell when  Siox  and Blackfeet meet . If you can get the book The Charles M Russell Book By Harold McCracken printed in 1957 its outstanding for his work. Willie.  Makes me want to go back to West where I come from. Willie

Dave Salter has again ask for this to be posted, still not quite comfortable with the computer  ;D

Fighting Indians by Maier  -  60mm

This is Part 1 of my Wild West Venture.  The design is from I think Charles Russell or Frederick Remington's paintings so my colour scheme will reflect this.

Starting point was undercoating white Humbrol basically to find any flash still left after cleaning.

Next step undercoat grey Acrylic, then block in main colours as guide in Acrylic.

I will start Part 2 in oils.  The light source will be 2 0'clock striking the buckskin figure.

Part 2 to follow.
