According to D. & B. Fosten in "The Thin Red Line" and P. Haythornthwaite in "Waterloo Men" the 18th Hussar officers lace was silver (as you've already been told). However, I thought you might be interested to know that these authors describe the colour of the officers sashes as crimson with gold, woven barrels. I hope this additional information is helpful and that I'm not telling you something you know already.
