Here is a Menz figure marvellously engraved by Franck, showing Saladin at the battle of Hattin (1187) after a Gustave Doré drawing

Eric, you are right, it's a great figure. I have it and I will paint it.
I will bring it with me and you can see the result at Kulmbach.

Yes I did
It was some years ago and I remenber one was with a black coat over a green jacket and mounted on a pale yellow horse with black head, hair and tail (in french : aubere cap de maure)
I do not rember the second, maybe all white
Both were sold years ago
