Title: Some Thiel Napoleionics
Post by: marko on March 13, 2025, 04:28:24 PM
Interesting set of French cavalry soldiers picked up on Ebay Germany after cleaning.  The top 4 are definitely Thiel with the remainder possibly Frauendorf or .....

Interestingly the 4 Thiel marked which are on the Top Row- T458c, T459c, 460c and  461c are not in the Michael Knoll archive on this site:

Here is a nice example painted by Gianmarco Zannoni from Bisutulfi's site

The remainder have a variety of base shapes:

with the marking JF on 3 of them - Fraunendorf perhaps.

And

Show a JF, D3  and 2692c, JM and K  DJ286

Obviously some of them have seen better days but, as the Gianmarco picture shows there is the possibility of magic.

I have to take sides with JBA, the paintwork of Gianmarco Zanoni is outstandingly nice!
I particularly like the steed: it is one of the best I have ever seen - the rendering of the shines is beautiful.
Mark, would it be possible to get a larger picture, to see the detailes a bit closer?

Even more laudable when you consider the figures which are not first class engravings.  As far as the picture - and I agree the work is stunning - all I can do is point you go my source on Gianpolo's great site:
