Trompette de la compagnie des gardes 30mm
-
Beautiful and meticulous work!
I also like the rendering of the horse.
I found how difficult painting a nice white horse!
You made it very fine!

The blue stands out as really well done.
-
This is really a wonderful figure - well done!
I also am curious given your note no Facebook - is this entire series being reissued by Epopees Liveres? If yes, that would indeed be good news as the Terrana version of these figures as opposed to the Gottstein version is far superior. (I have the Gottstein set and the detail is a bit muddied.) Terrana figures are a bit larger than most other 30mm figures but, the tradeoff is superior detail. Crossing my fingers....

Thanks so much for this! I will need to store up some Euros but, always wanted the set.

As there should be no confusion: The "new" set of Guillaume Bretegnier is in fact the original Armont set of 1937. The "Gottstein" set was re-engraved initiated by Paul Krog based on fairly rough designs by Karl-Heinz Rieger in about 1980/1990.
-
Go Marko ... for christmas ...
Guillaume had the set paint by Terrana on his stand at Sévres
-
Good stuff!
-
Further more ... let it be known that the majority of the figures are engraved by Otto Thieme and not only by Sixtus Maier as it is stated in the list!

On a semi-related front, Stephanie Coudert's fantastic site on flat figures - http://stephanecoudert.com/ (http://stephanecoudert.com/) - has a wonderful example using some of these figures as wells other Bretegnier figures from this time period:

a. These are beautifully painted examples of these figures.
b. I am curious about the two flags represented here. I have a number of resources illustrating French army flags - which are endlessly colorful - but, I have never seen either of these listed. Does anyone know what they trace back to?
Based on the content one could assume the first is directly related to the King and Maison du Roi but, again I have yet to find a reference.
c. For members there is a nice section on this site in the Uniformology/Ancien Regime section on these figures called Le Grand Etat Major de Louis XIV - Christian Terana which has some examples of this set - not sure if they are Gottstein or Terana - and an article on the uniforms as written by Christian Terana.

Contratulations for your work ! With this iconographic documentation, C Térana gave a written description of the outfits of these marshals, some of which included the livery worn by their guard.

Hi Richard, which book or journal is the Terana article from? I'm always surprised by these hidden gems...
-
Hi Henry,
the text was not from the article. I received it as a supplement to this set while purchasing figures from mr. Terana.

I did reach out to the vendor on these beauties last week looking for a price and ordering but, I have yet to hear back. My Christmas present may be late this year I suppose.....though fortunately there is plenty to paint.

I understand, thank you, Oleg. I've examined the painted figures in the Krannich/Krog book on Gottsein. Some align with Terana's descriptions, while others differ slightly. Is Terana's description based on a drawing by Rousselot, and if so, is it accessible somewhere? Alternatively, does anyone have pictures of the set painted by Terana?

Ok, I've found the complete leaflet in the forum https://intflatfigures.org/BFFS/History/LeGrandEtat.pdf ;). But still wondering about a Rousselot drawing in color :)

I corrected Louis XIV on the advice of Eric Talmant and the description provided by Terana + 2x Claude Louis Hector Marquis de Villars

Lovely work, well done!

I did reach out and am trying to place an order for this set plus, the Garde figures and Louis XIV stand alone figure. I am still awaiting a reply from Thomas Seele so we shall see but, hopefully I get it placed by the end of the year so I have a New Years present to look forward to!

Hello Mark,
Mr Seele has some health problem recently, so he is quite in late with replays.

Oh dear, poor fellow. I wish him a quick recovery.

You can contact Guillaume Bretegnier at this address epopeeslivresfigurines(at)gmail.com (http://gmail.com)

I corrected Villars after a remark from Eric Talmant the engraver forgot the right rein + Duc de Villeroy
-
Good eye Mr. Talmant and nicely painted. (One wonders in that state if his horse could only make left turns?)
By the way I emailed Guillaume Bretegnier about ordering the set, it has been a long term hunt for me. He was most pleasant and responsive.

P.S. Unfortunately like most Americans I am not conversant in helpful languages like French, German or Italian while our European colleagues are much more fluent in English. I use google translate but, always feel guilty as I can't speak to the quality of the product because I am too dense.
Thank you to all of our more worldly colleagues and partners that are so patient!

Marko
Guillaume speak english very well ... don't worry i also use Google Translate
-
Jean Paul it looks like you are well on the way with this set, I look forward to the product.
I find this time period through the Napoleonic Wars quite fascinating. Soldiers in completely inappropriate and often poorly made clothing in some of the most in-hospitable parts of the world making war. One also wonders of what an army of 20,000 or 30,000 individuals and thousands of horses did to the landscape - it truly boggles the mind.
I have been reading some soldiers memoirs of the Peninsular War of late and one can add diet to that as well. It is amazing we have survived as a species....

Don't worry Mark, I don't think it has changed nowadays when I see the tanks and trucks in wars like Ukraine and Gazah, the landscape is also devastated. Humans were and remain the most destructive living animals to the nature. :-[

Do you know If this the Gottsten rendition of these figures or the Bretegnier version? Their site is unclear. I am after the second and already have the Gottstein which are a bit smaller and not as nicely engraved.
Thanks
