Marechal de France en 1702.
30mm in oils.
-
He's rather nice Roger.
After starting the Gondola and now the 30mm project figure, I am now back into small mode :)
-
Thanks very much Nick, yeah I know what you mean I'm really into the 30mm's at the moment.
-
Like the look of this Roger

Thank you very much Frank. :)

Magnificient painting, sweet colours, nuances in the browns, good lightenings.... *******
Beautiful colour balances and the horse is very nice also !!! **********
I love it!
-
Thank you very much Michel. It's funny because this figure has been quite well received here and on other forums. I actually put it aside for months because I wasn't happy with it. It only took a couple of hours work to finish it off, strange how things work out.
-
Inspiration takes sometimes time to crystallize!
But wathcing it again, look at the hair, the sweetness of the tones.... it is really beautiful and quiet unusual in its colours and brightness. I vey nice achievement rarely seen before!
-
I'm not sure I could do it again Michel but I think the secret is to use as limited palette as possible.
-
Good suggestion to me, because I am using more & more colours, not the right direction.
-
well as my daughter says, she can never have enough shoes, and therefore I can never have enough paints!! ;D ;D ;D
my collection consists of 40. although I mix a lot more as I am on the Gondola so they all appear different. Maybe it is too many colours :-\ Michel you can let me know in Ransart ;)
-
Whatever works best for you fella's and I agree Nick my wife thinks I collect paints like I collect figures and she's probably right but personally I think my best results have been when using a fairly limited palette. :)
-
Ohh Nick I have some 60 small tubes, but not all are on use.
However I try to enrich colours by glazes now to make them deeper, with little touches.....
But I have to revert you the question and learn from you, nit you from me, dear !! Your paintingas are quiet impressive.
-
Roger, I believe you are right!! and your exemple below proves it clearly, a beauty !!!
-
Hello friends of flats,
in school I learned for painting you only need yellow, blue and red. The other colors you can mix ...
And why I have 40 different colors to use ???
Best regards
Michael
-
not so Michel, I am always looking to see what other techniques I can pick up. :)
I use glazes occasionally to smooth out certain looks if I feel they need them, but always with the same colour. Do I gather from your statement then that you put other colours over different ones???
ummm, I feel a need to experiment. more advice would be very useful ;)
-
for example glazes of violet or green on métal, on a face in the shadows, in the shadows of clothes; I dilute with W Spirit, ad when the flat is dry, give a rapid glaze in the shadow with highly diluted colour, wait one day and repeat until subtle tone appear, ....
I did for Elerinaa Elven bust with the skin, against the Mars black of the bust clothing to give a litte bit of warm; you can give a glaze green or blue to the second to cool the color slightly and enforce the contrast betwwen warm and cool....
-
Very good explanation Michel. Nick there is lots of info on the net. It is mainly aimed at oil on canvas painting but the same technique applies to us too.
Here's just one, http://painting.about.com/od/oilpainting/a/GeraldD_glazing.htm

Glazes are for those who can not paint hahaha

Hey Brian
The Great Masters used Glazes and shock Horror under painting and they could paint!! :o
techniques are just that, what ever suits the painter ;) and what results he or she gets ;)
-
OK great "artist" Just tell me what you see!!
Most of the time it's about the kings new clothes and nothing to do with talent ;D
-
A point well demonstrated Brian. Well done. ;D

Personally I'd rather look at a well painted flat but it's all a matter of taste. :)

Hi Brian
I think Picasso could put the smile on the other side of your face ...... :) ;) ;D
Seriously though......Give me the old masters and the Victorian painters any day
for inspiration

Someone spent 20 minutes knocking those up Brian, they are their pride and joy!!! :-\
( probably sell for thousands too!! :o )
Can't really compare them to Zinnfiguren, and I don't think they are painted with glazes either!
Definitely not my cup of tea, but you got to admit, at that sort of money they would be fools not to do it!!
PS where can I get canvases from?? :o ;D ;D ;D ;D I'm going to make a fortune! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Great site for examples of horses is the Rio Rondo site - they make resin horses.

Lots and lots of inspiration here.
