Title: 30mm bloke on a horse
Post by: mike on December 17, 2012, 04:29:15 PM
I know nothing about this figure! Its a Kieler 30mm engraved by Frank. Painted in oils, mostly wet on wet.
Any ideas of who it is would be helpful. Painted with artistic license!

Nicely painted Mike

Very nice Mike, what's the number on the base and we'll see if we can identify it?

As for Artistic Licences, I'm the BFFS rep. on behalf of HM Govt. anyone requiring one can send me a cheque for £99.99  ;D ;D ;D

very well painted Mike and the artistic licence is welcome !
if I remember it shows a carthaginian chief named Marabal or something like that; you will find it in the Complete Kieler

This is it  Agk 84b   Karthager   Reiterfeldherr, Marharbal   L.Fr.

From http://www.kieler-zinnfiguren.de/Listen/Altertum.html

I can't post the pic as the file is too large but it's on the bottom row of Altertum 1

Thanks Guys
Any information on him. Was he some sort of commander ?
I think artistic license is a posh word for "I have not got a clue so I'll just make it up!

Not much about him really. In the spring of 216BC, Hannibal was camped in Apulia, about 10 miles from the River.
The Romans decided to raise an army againt him and with approx 80 000 troops met him there.

This was the Battle of Cannae.

Marabal was the Numidian Cavalry commander which was suppose to be the weakest link in the cavalry department of Hannibals army.

However, based on the left of the battle, ( where they could do no real harm) he shattered the Roman cavalry and turned behind the main Roman army in the centre, ensuring their complete cut off from escape.
